Ocean freight

LCL ocean freight — groupage to and from Romania

When your cargo does not fill a container, LCL (less than container load) means paying only for the space you occupy in a shared container. Medrom coordinates the full journey of a sea groupage to or from Romania — through Constanța or through our partners in Koper and Thessaloniki — including deconsolidation, customs clearance and delivery to the final consignee.

When LCL makes sense

  • Shipments under roughly 12–15 cubic metres, where a full container would travel half empty.
  • Trial orders or recurring small-volume deliveries from the same supplier.
  • Goods with high value per cubic metre, where transport cost matters less than regularity.

For larger volumes we always compare with a full container — see FCL ocean freight. Sometimes FCL is cheaper than it looks.

What we coordinate in an LCL import

  1. Pick-up from the shipper and consolidation into a container at the port of origin, through our partners.
  2. Ocean transport to Constanța — or, when the route is more favourable, to Koper (Slovenia) or Thessaloniki (Greece), with overland transport into Romania.
  3. Deconsolidation on arrival and collection of your lot.
  4. Customs clearance — by our team in Constanța Port or at the customs office near you, via transit.
  5. Delivery to your factory or warehouse anywhere in Romania, or temporary storage in the Constanța South Free Zone.

LCL export from Romania

The same flow in reverse: we collect the goods from you, consolidate them, prepare the export declaration and hand over to the partner at destination. We also help with the documents required by the destination country (certificates of origin, transport documents).

What we need to quote

  • Port or city of origin and final destination in Romania (or the reverse, for export).
  • Number of packages, dimensions, gross weight and volume.
  • Nature of the goods (and whether dangerous — IMO class).
  • The delivery term in your contract (Incoterms) — it determines who pays for what.

Frequently asked questions

How long does LCL from Asia to Romania take?

It depends on the route and port of origin; consolidation at departure and deconsolidation on arrival add to the sailing time. We give you an estimated transit time with the quote, for the specific route.

Which port is better for entry: Constanța, Koper or Thessaloniki?

It depends on the origin of the goods, the final destination in Romania and the frequency of services on that route. We compare the options and recommend one based on numbers, not habit.

Can I clear LCL cargo at the customs office near me?

Yes. We open a transit from Constanța and discharge it at the consignee's customs office, where clearance takes place.
