Served directly by our Otopeni office
Air cargo is time-critical by nature: the goods are usually urgent, high-value or both, and storage at the airport terminal is charged by the day. That is why Medrom does not handle Otopeni from Bucharest — our Otopeni office is at the airport, with its own team working daily with the Otopeni customs office and the cargo terminal. When the air waybill and the invoice are in our hands, the declaration can be lodged on arrival and the shipment collected the same day.
The same team handles the reverse flow: export declarations, exit formalities and delivery of the goods to the terminal for departing flights.
What we do for an air shipment
- Pre-arrival check — we review the air waybill, invoice and packing list before the flight lands and tell you what duties, VAT and documents apply.
- Customs clearance at Otopeni — import (release for free circulation), export declarations and transit to another customs office in Romania or in the EU. Details of our representation options on the customs brokerage in Romania page.
- Terminal formalities — collection from the cargo terminal, handling of temporary storage and of any physical inspection requested by customs.
- Direct delivery from Otopeni — parcels and pallets are delivered from the airport straight to the consignee, in Bucharest or anywhere in Romania, through our inland delivery service.
- Storage in our customs warehouse in Bucharest — if the goods are not needed immediately, or if you want to postpone the payment of import duties, we place them in our 1,000 sqm warehouse with customs warehousing authorisation and release them in stages.
- Export by air — export declaration, exit formalities and delivery to the terminal (export declarations require Romanian Customs UMG registration and empowering Medrom for export operations).
Typical air cargo shipments we handle

How the operation runs
- You send us the air waybill, invoice and packing list — ideally before the flight lands — and, for a first operation, the contract or power of attorney and your EORI number.
- We check the documents, classify the goods and confirm the duties, VAT and any licence required.
- On arrival, our Otopeni team lodges the declaration and handles any customs check.
- The shipment is collected from the terminal and either delivered directly from Otopeni or placed in our customs warehouse in Bucharest, as you instruct.
- You receive the customs documents needed for your accounting.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have an office at Otopeni airport?
Yes. Air cargo is handled directly by our own Otopeni office, with a dedicated team working with the Otopeni customs office and the cargo terminal.
Can you deliver the shipment after clearance?
Yes — parcels and pallets are delivered directly from Otopeni to the consignee, in Bucharest or anywhere in Romania.
Can the goods be stored instead of delivered?
Yes. We place them in our 1,000 sqm customs warehouse in Bucharest, where non-Union goods can be stored without payment of import duties until you release them.
What documents do you need for an air import?
The air waybill, the commercial invoice and the packing list, plus the representation contract or power of attorney and your EORI number for a first operation.
Do you handle air exports too?
Yes — export declarations, exit formalities and delivery of the goods to the cargo terminal. Export declarations require UMG registration with Romanian Customs and empowering Medrom for export operations.
